IB -> Corp Dev -> PE / Private Credit?

Summary:

  • Did 1.5 yrs as an IB analyst in an FIG M&A focused group (mostly strategic deals)

  • Now closing in on 1 year in Corp Dev at a public company (worked on 2 deals + lots of operations type work including integration, treasury, FP&A, etc.)

  • Non-target background.

My interest is in middle market debt/equity investments. I’ve had some exposure to the BDC space via my analyst work in FIG, and have always wanted to be a lender/growth investor.

Would I be a competitive candidate at MM or LMM fund? I haven’t pushed too hard, but haven’t had much luck recruiting. Seems like I’m losing out to current IB analysts.
