It can be if it's not an industry you really like/would like to spend your career in it.
If it is your favorite industry to cover/work in, these roles can be lucrative and lead to great opportunities to other Portcos within the same industry. Personally know a few well-to-do operators like these and all of them have made at least a few million. They didn't work in insurer but a similar industry.
Thanks for the insight, I’ve seen some similar replies on some other posts. I am a rising senior, in the long run I’d like to push my career towards working in VC ideally. I’m worried about how relevant it’ll be with that in mind. I believe the team does conduct some VC and venture like deals. My largest concern is the limitations of being too specialized early in my career. Plus, many of those more interesting investments may be limited due to insurer capital charges, limiting how relevant the experience may be for my overall goal. In that sense, it may be best to pivot towards IB recruiting but I’m unsure.
In this case, I would keep searching for other opportunities. My comment was more directed towards mid-level bankers leaving. I do not think corp dev is the best option at entry level.
From corp dev to VC is not impossible... I got into some processes through referral. I cover P&U which is further away from where you are, thereby you def have a good chance, provided with the right connection.
