I’m hearing of a few firms that offer associates levered coinvesting opportunities. How long does it typically take to get your money back and does it make sense to do this when so many funds right more will probably do write downs in the next few years?

This depends on a few factors: Strategy of the fund - broadly you can consider whether more value or growth oriented How much of the fund has been deployed over the last few years? Maybe this is what you are thinking about for write downs. If the fund is not or barely deployed then most of the fund should be deployed in more reasonable valuation The leverage being offered - even moderate returns (say teens) can be boosted on leverage. This is more attractive if you don't fees either.
