Is it plausible for me to get into PE
I graduated from a top University with a comms degree, fell into a PR role where my clients are private equity firms. The client work really peaked my interest in PE. Now I’m thinking of getting my MBA to attempt to break into PE. Is it plausible for me to break in with a MBA from a top 20 program? Or would it be more realistic to go from MBA to IB then to PE? If that’s even possible with my experience.

No
Can't do MBA -> PE without prior PE experience, but doable to go to IB first and then PE. A top MBA will place you nicely into IB. Just be aware you're trading off your interesting work for 70-80 hour workweeks.
You really need an M7 program or T15 at worst to have a shot / be worth the money
Your background aligns more with VC.
Also agree that you need to do IB/Consulting before making the move to the buy-side
Couldn't imagine going to a top university just to get a communications degree. What a waste.
IB would help a lot in my eyes. You likely will have to take a step down along the way somewhere in seniority.
