Is LMM PE -> HSW -> MF PE Doable?

Let's say you have all the prerequisite stats to get into HSW (most don't, but here you do). How feasible is LMM PE -> HSW -> recruiting into MF PE? For the sake of discussion, LMM -> UMM is also something I'm curious about.

Super unlikely to put it nicely, in both cases. Moving up-market in PE is tough as it is, but LMM is also hardly the cream of the crop for HSW when they've got all the pre-MBA MM-MF associates applying as well. Maybe if the GPs at your fund are alums and can make a push for you but again, plenty of MM-MF will have that as well. The post-MBA MF spots are even harder to get than the pre-MBA ones so if you didn't have the stuff to make it into those, it'll be even more pronounced for the post-MBA ones. You also haven't mentioned anything about IB background (but I do see your tagged as a 1st year) or whether you went to a target school, which will also count against you in most cases as LMM PE analyst programs will not be looked at the same as even most MM IB ones. LMM PE associate workflows are also substantially different than what you'll have at a UMM/MF, not as transferrable.
