No it’s not a thing outside of special circumstances and has been covered in plenty of threads before this. To summarize, junior (everyone below partner, sometimes) comp is paid out of management fees which are fixed and contractually obligated.
The only scenarios I can see someone junior getting laid off are I) fundraising issues; or ii) performance issues.
