Let go from PE?

Those who were let go from PE (~7 months in) and are interviewing - how did you explain this to HH / future firm when you're looking to go back into PE? What would be an answer that does not "ding" you?

Appreciate some advice

It was a performance-related decision. My workload ended up being concentrated with one partner for the majority of my time there, so my evaluation was heavily weighted toward that single experience. I made a mistake on a project, and although I took accountability for it, I didn’t feel I had the opportunity to demonstrate improvement.

I enjoyed my experience in PE, and do want to stay in the field. Appreciate any pointers on navigating recruitment given my situation
