Living in different city from fund
Have an offer from a MF, but I really don't see myself living in the city it's in longterm. There are no MFs in the city I would like to live in, so I would have to downgrade to get a job there. Are there any people you've seen take advantage of WFH to permanently move cities while maintaining their position? Will they have to move back as firms require people to come back to the office?
You may be fine in the near term, but it’s an apprenticeship-model relationship business… senior personnel may stay in satellite cities, but at the junior-mid level eventually I suspect you’ll either be asked back to the office or disadvantaged for promotions and staffing if you aren’t nearby
Honestly think you'd be disadvantaged professionally unless you can find ways to still be at the main office with high frequency. Sort of unfair, but it's the honest answer. Stick with the MF and save up a bit and then move if you want to hedge, or just decide you value geography most and jump to a smaller firm now.
