London MBB > PE - When to Recruit?

Incoming MBB consultant, but not starting until October/November intake for various reasons. Have one eye on PE recruitment, ideally targeting energy/infra groups or sustainability/ESG focus after having done a buy side internship in undergrad.

I understand in the US that most PE recruitment happens autumn of first year to start nearly two years down the line. It seems like London is a bit different and that I shouldn’t be trying to recruit until this time next year? Would anyone look at me applying this cycle, or do I just wait another year?
