LP/Allocator to Direct PE pathway

Am an analyst on an LP team that is part of a well-known asset management platform (eg. Blackrock/GSAM/Carlyle AlpInvest). 60-80% of my work is co-investing which involves underwriting minority stakes in buyout deals (see a lot of deal flow), and the other 20-40% is spread between primary funds and LP/GP-led secondaries. Looking to recruit into Direct PE at the associate level with aspirations to join a top tier MF/UMM shop. Any insight into potential pathways and ease of transition?
