MBA for going to PE (from MBB)
Hi, I have been working for 2 years in a MBB firm in Europe and I would like to break into PE. The downsides I see to my candidature are:
- Non-finance background, engineering background
- No DD/PE experience in consulting yet
- No network in PE
I would like to apply to PE as an associate in Europe (DACH/UK) but maybe my odds are lower to other peers, so I consider making an MBA and position myself as a reasonable candiate to have the chance to get a job in a good fund.
Do you recommend me to do an MBA in my context? I think it works better if I apply to US, but I would prefer to look in Europe.
If yes, which business schools do you advise me to choose in my situation for a PE landing after MBB?
Thanks!
I think you should gain some experience in the PE group at your consultancy if you can first
Plenty of advice on the forum for your situation. An MBA will surely lower your chances of PE if you do not have pre-MBA PE experience. Cannot speak to your situation in regards to being in Europe, but that is how it is in the States.
I don’t know how it works in Europe but at least in the US I found my engineering background to only be a plus in recruiting
I was thinking more on doing an MBA and joining as a PE Associate not a post-MBA role (like VPs). If an MBA is not worthy due to my background, I consider maybe a Master in Finance (LBS) or Master in Finance and PE from LSE.
Do you think it will be a good move to increase my chances to get into PE or it doesn't make sense?
