MBA or JD for Private Equity Career Track
Hey all, I'm an associate at a LMM shop (Very small with only 3 people on the deal team). I'm in the DC area and plan to either apply for a part-time JD at GW Law (Georgetown is a reach) or a part-time MBA at Darden (I have already been admitted). Which is a better choice in the long term? I'm hoping to land a job at a MM or UMM shop later.
My background: I have no IB experience, but luckily got a PE job from a consulting background. I have a master's degree in finance, but I'm also on a work visa. All make me at the bottom of the food chain.
Neither degree is really going to help you. Even if the firm is footing the bill, the time you'll spend on class would be better utilized working your current role. If you're dead set on grad school, I wouldn't do anything less than a fulltime M7 MBA program to have a shot lateralling to a larger firm.
