Most toxic behaviour seen

Just a list of the most toxic things you have seen your boss / colleagues do. I’ll start:

  1. Someone at a portfolio company asked for a retention bonus. He was given the bonus conditional on him being there in 1 years time. He got fired after 10 months (which was planned when he got the bonus by my MD)

  2. Someone at the PE firm asked if he could get a raise given inflation and the fund actually doing well - got fired for “toxic behaviour that is cancerous and shouldn’t spread”

  3. Classic gaslighting: saying a meeting got scheduled a while ago so people shouldn’t complain about the short deadline. Look in the invite and see the email trail that the meeting got agreed 2 days ago.

My old VP in PE

7pm: “Please turn these comments, send back, and I will send more comments”

Ok cool, 9:30pm I send back

10:00 pm: “Please turn these comments and do not got to bed, I will be awake and provide another set of comments and will review in the AM before you log on”

Ok cool that’s a good system!

12:30 send back updated model/deck

1:00am no response

1:30am no response

I go to sleep

brother what the actual duck

This is way too common for this to be seen as unusually toxic lol

VP at management visit gave me turns for a deck for the next morning. Says at the start we are going hard stop at 1 AM. We churn and burn til I get comments back at 12:45. I’m done in 10 min but hold off until 12:59 to send, fall asleep. Wake up at 6, turn the comment he sent overnight at 1:01 AM, and send back.

Head down to meet partners and whatnot at 8 before going to management site. VP nowhere to be found. Straggles in 10 min late looking like shit…

Turns out he stayed up until 2:30 to see if I would turn his last comment. Pulled me aside to tell me but also said he couldn’t get mad at me because he did say 1 AM hard stop.

Got top bonus, declined return offer

Boss (Owner - boutique IB shop) hires mistress who is talent-less retard "as management professional" (I find ppl like this intriguing - they label themselves as "enhancers" - well what do you enhance "everything", if you cannot in some way pinpoint your skills and your talent is based on some kind of intrigue mantra bs then your talent is nothing and you are nothing, where in this case I soon realized I was actually wrong), her actual talent was giving hand-jobs in the office when everyone leaves.

What was most rewarding - wants to ask you how the industry works while giving you orders and the boss watches her act verbally abusive and when you ask him about it "yeah, she's just a grinder..." - he may as well have responded "yeah, she's just a homicidal maniac", it wouldn't have mattered, he would have minimized any offensive action on her part.

And THAT boys and girls is the power of some decent side chick...
