Path for a Google APM to break into VC or being an operator partner at a Growth/Private Equity firm?

Hey incoming APM at Google looking to explore some career opportunities. I know googles apm program allows for a lot of flexibility and a lot of alumni go into VC, so I wanted to know what steps I can take to get into one of these roles? I don’t go to an Ivy+, and go to a good state school (not Berkeley), so would I need a top MBA from HSW? Or are there other experiences I should consider?
