PE Analyst at PE shop vs investment analyst at big insurance co specializing in PE
Hello WSO community,
I was hoping some of you could help clear some things up for me in regards to a position I am currently in the middle of interviewing for.
The position is an investment analyst within the insurance co.'s in-house private equity group. To my understanding this role is mostly conducting due dilligence on PE funds and determining which funds to invest into (company allocates money to private equity investments, this team selects the funds) and also some model building.
How different is this than being an analyst at a PE shop directly; career paths; exit ops; pay; etc.?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The role is more like a PE fund of funds job. Very different than direct PE - there are a bunch of existing threads on fund of funds, but generally lifestyle is much better, and pay is less. In terms of exit opps, it depends what you want to do.
