PE best practice

1) Do people leave shops before their 2 year pre-MBA associate stint is up? If so, do most go to a bigger shop (MM->Mega), a HF, change location, or just leave the industry? Additionally, what is the general perception of this? (I only ask because in banking people get pissed for about a week, and after that, forget your name for the new hire college grad that re-circs the model and format slides all night)

2) Is renegging on an offer completely taboo in an industry as small as PE? I'm sure you could get away with it, especially if going from PE to HF, but in a PE to PE reneg situation, is that just retarded?
