PE firms specializing in insurance industry
Good afternoon,
I am trying to break into PE from the insurance industry. Does anyone know of any firms that specialize in the insurance industry, where my background would be most useful? Whats the best way I can go about looking for them?
Appreciate it.
Lightyear and Parthenon come to mind.
H&F, Warburg, Blackstone all have FIG teams with insurance experience (esp w/ Bermuda Reinsurance experience), Stone Point, Lightyear, Flexpoint, Century Capital are a few others.
Thank you karypto and BananStand! This will hopefully give me some good leads.
Sorry for the bump. I'd be interested in hearing how viable this move is. Specifically, what kind of position would I need to hold at my current company to make this viable?
My background: I'm currently completing my undergrad degree PT whilst working a reasonably unimpressive role at an insurance company. The good news is that once I finish my degree (and maybe even before) I could move into a much more senior role relatively easily and would have much better odds than trying to break into banking.
Edit:
Are there ever opportunities to move from insurance into the investment funds which the company also owns? I'm pretty sceptical since this does include some huge name fund/s but would be interested in hearing if this ever happens.
I am in the midst of trying to make it viable, and I will definitely let you know how it goes. I was fortunate enough to be in the actuarial development program at my company which includes rotations every 18-24 months. I started on the liability side doing boring liability valuation, but when I rotated I was able to move to an asset-liability-management role (ALM) where we use investments (short futures and enter interest rate swaps) to hedge the company's risks related to the assets (investment funds). I think I would be able to leverage this exeperience to possibly work direcly with the investment funds.
I would advise you to network extensively within your company (it is a lot easier than cold calling / emailing) and try to meet some people who work with the investment funds. Be open to roles that aren't exactly what you think you are looking for if they could be a steppingstone to the investment side. Good luck.
