PE internship

Hey,

I am currently a student at a NESCAC school in Maine looking to get more experience on my resume. There are a few small PE funds run out of Portland ME, about 30 minutes away from my school. All of them are small boutique firms with no real internship programs to my knowledge. What would be the best way to reach out to these firms in hopes of interning at one of them? I am looking to go a few times a week and help out and practice modeling ect. What would be better, cold calling or e-mailing?

-Thanks
