PE Lateral?
Have an offer to join a large PE fund for FT. I’m excited about the firm and probably going to take the offer. That being said, I am a bit worried about optionality, as there’s a decent chance I’ll want to move firms in a few years after I get a better feel for the industry. I understand in banking it’s easy enough to connect with hh and get involved in on cycle or off cycle recruiting.
My question is this: what does the lateraling process look like for those that start in PE? My basic assumption is it would require a bit more leg work on my end (reaching out to hh), but beyond that, it wouldn’t be much different. Am I wrong?
I lateraled after 1 year. Can’t speak to lateraling at higher levels, but I just went through head hunters and found it to be a pretty easy process.
