PE MO/BO position

What is your take on analyst position with main responsibilites being valuation support and ongoing analysis of PortCos? Would the analyst get involved in deal process (i.e. negotiation with banks, lawyers, due diligence, overall coordination etc.) or just strictly build the models and perform analyses (is this considered back-office?)? If the second option is the case, are you basically locking yourself in that position with no upward potential? note: I'm not in USA and not familiar with how typical PE operates, as it's not so streamlined here

thanks for answers
