Where are the majority of PE firms located? After IB, I want to get into a MM PE firm where I can work just ~60hrs a week and in smaller city like Minneapolis, Denver, Chicago, San Diego, some cities in the south and etc.
I have no desire to live in NYC. Is that where most firms are located?

PE firms are located all over the place. I am not sure you can filter them out by how many hours you are going to work however ...
Tons of PE firms outside of NYC. Hit up CapIQ or Google to find some/ filter them out. Once you leave NYC though you find the world gets real small. I'd suggest finding local ACG chapters in the cities you are interested in and going to some events or looking for sponsoring firms to get an idea of places to work.
I was in the same boat - worked in NY years ago and have since avoided it like the plague. vtech is right that you can still be in a small market and get killed (think KRG in Denver) so it is not the case that NY = terrible hours and everywhere else = 60 hours a week. I don't know how your shop is with regards to recruiting, but if you can try and set up a day in your preferred market to have a bunch of meetings it may help. I found that in non-NY markets they always want to know what your ties are and it is a lot more supportable to say I want to end up in X market if you've made the effort to get on site.

I live in Atlanta and just from a quick google search and word by ear I know of at least 10 firms. I have a few family friends who work in PE in Boston and Jacksonville, so it seems like its everywhere.
Are there any good PEs located in Miami? Just out of curiosity.
