Question about Insight / GA sourcing coverage

With sourcing models like these, how does sourcing coverage work between the two options:

  1. You have a strict coverage universe (e.g., can only source FinTech)
  2. You have a mandated coverage universe and outside of that can chase whatever you want (e.g., you cover FinTech but so long as you continue bringing in FinTech deals successfully/adequately, you could chase down other things that interest you like Consumer in your free time)

Curious how it works. Thanks!

At Insight, each Partner (IC level) has their own team that basically supports the partner in their interest areas in terms of sector and stage. There's definitely overlap in coverage sectors and the overarching goal is to identify hot companies, but I think it's very partner-dependent. Seems flexible and should have opportunity to explore other interests at the firm. I've never worked there tho this is just based on what I've heard.
