Recruiting AM I cooked?
My SAT score is kind of shit (mid 1400s) for PE analyst recruiting, but legit everything else is a check off the box (the OAs, my GPA, my summer internships, networking with senior ppl, the school i go to). Idk if im cooked or not for MFPE
Based on the most helpful WSO content, your mid-1400s SAT score might not be ideal for MF PE recruiting, as these firms often prioritize candidates with "blue-chip" credentials, including top-tier test scores. However, you're not necessarily "cooked." Here's why:
Holistic Profile Matters: While SAT scores are a factor, they are not the sole determinant. If your GPA, internships, networking, and school are strong, you still have a competitive edge. Many firms value demonstrated experience and strong recommendations over test scores.
Networking is Key: Your ability to connect with senior professionals and build relationships can help offset any perceived weaknesses. Continue leveraging your network to get referrals and insights into the recruiting process.
Targeting the Right Firms: While MF PE might be more challenging with a mid-1400s SAT, UMM or MM PE firms are often more flexible and focus more on your deal experience and overall profile.
Supplement with Other Credentials: If you're concerned about your SAT score, consider taking the GMAT or GRE and scoring well. A strong GMAT (e.g., 750+) can demonstrate your intellectual horsepower and help mitigate concerns about your SAT.
Directly Address Concerns: If asked about your SAT score during interviews, be prepared to pivot the conversation to your strengths, such as your deal experience, leadership roles, or other achievements.
In summary, while your SAT score might be a slight hurdle for MF PE, your strong overall profile and networking efforts can still make you a competitive candidate. Keep pushing forward and consider broadening your target firms to include UMM and MM PE shops. You're not "cooked"—just need to play your cards strategically!
