Recruiting as AN2/3 vs ASO Lateral?

(Ignore title) AN2 who decided to recruit late so considering some MM roles that are interesting, but perhaps not to the extent that I see myself there long-term: Is it is easier to move around in PE once in the space (would be willing to “re-do” ASO1 if needed) or is it worth a third year in banking to try for a better fit?

Have heard mixed opinions on lateraling, but would like to avoid getting “stuck” in IB or delaying leaving just to not land any stronger off cycle opportunities
