Secondaries advisory background exits
Starting soon in one of a pretty well respected shop (EVR/LAZ/PJT). I've been thinking really hard about potential exits. Is it possible to break into traditional PE (UMM/MF) and secondaries investing (BX/Alpinvest/Ardian) or lateralling to M&A?
Should I focus more on the GP-led or LP-led side of things? Appreciate any thoughts! Cheers to 2024!
You're talking about exits before you've even started
Bump, similar position
On #1, I’ve seen a very few numbers of exits to LMM PE, i.e not impossible to move to direct buyout but people in PCA tend to stay long term for various reasons (already covered in multiple other threads).
On #2, some exits to Secondaries MF such as Lexington, Ardian, AlpInvest from PCA but from M&A as well (and I know some funds only hire the latter)
On #3, yes possible to move to M&A. Some people in my team have lateraled internally or move to other top tier banks.
On #4, really depends on what you are trying to solve for. If you’re looking to move to M&A / direct buyout along the way, then you should try and focus on GP-led deals.
thats helpful man! Can you comment on the culture & pay from your former shop?
