Senior in High School
Hello, I just started the application process to college and it’s very clear I want to go into finance. I’ve managed $10,000+ for a while now, and I find it very enjoyable.
My academic stats align with most Target (S-Tier) and Semi-Target schools (think UMich, NYU, UT Austin).
I want to be very ahead of the pack going into college and PE/IB recruiting.
Any advice to stay ahead of the pack?
First year internship opportunities or advice?
Thanks

Network, get good grades, get drunk, consensually touch genitals with people, have hobbies, become well rounded.
Lazy fucker
I'll bite - I was the high schooler googling how to join a hedge fund or become a banker. (No I'm not a neck beard virgin). I ran my parents and immediate families portfolio in high-school and college. Thought I was a genius, but being long tech and throwing in a couple dividend/value plays is far away from idea generation at a fund.
If you're already on this site, you're on the right path. Anything finance related (PWM, local IB boutique will be more than enough. Getting into the relevant IB/investing clubs along w a good gpa is a necessity
With all that said, college should be the best time of your life, don’t let finance or anything deter you from that
Pro tip, don't say this. This site, which is representative of all of finance and therefore all that matters in the world, prefers the much more prestigious "HYPSM". (this is sarcasm, work decently hard, become well rounded and you'll be fine)
First thing. Know the difference between IB/PE versus asset management. So many people go into IB interviews talking about how they love stock picking…. The underlying analysis, research, etc can be similar but a-lot of kids miss this point.
If you can’t get a freshmen summer internship, do a summer study abroad. It still builds your resume and is way better than some random job.
Join all the clubs.
Get laid first, then come back here, ok?
NYU is not a semi-target lol...they put more ppl into FO finance than almost any school in the world less 3 or so. This is a fact.
Signed someone who didn't go there but is involved in IBD recruiting process at my bank.
