So you use PPT in PE?
Clickbait sort of - just wondering if the deck building skills gained in IB actually translate to PE since I don’t imagine you’re consistently pitching but rather on the receiving end.

Yes, used plenty (IC decks, lender updates, diligence read-outs, diligence agendas/exhibits).
I didn’t come from IB but biggest perceived difference is pages are more vanilla (less busy and less graphics focus) and also far less sales-y. More focus on conveying information and findings than packaging and dressing something up.
IC memos and lender updates are not going to write themselves. They are very basic and dry compared to the graphic design side of IB just due to the context. IC memo's tend to be far longer and more detailed than IB decks, though I would argue takes shorter time than a lot of IB materials due to the freakish levels of focus on slide design / creation in IB (i.e. the focus of most PE slides is to make a clear point, the focus on vast majority of IB decks is to sell) . Attention to detail matters, particularly around numbers to ensure people understand your point, but there is much less focus on formatting for myself and most mid-levels.
Experiences will vary across firms though particularly as firm cultures around IC can vary a lot based on the personalities involved. I was at a public MF and now at a large-cap UMM, and this just my take.
Agree with this
The only way PPT skills matter is just because you need to know how to make basic PPTs and charts but you won’t be wasting so much time on this at most funds. Even at funds focused on having pretty decks it’s content / data driven rather than fillings slides for the sake of it
At my fund we just take snips from DD reports or CIM where we can without recreating stuff
Every shop seems to do it differently. We would never be allowed to simply take snips (every th ing has to be remade / recreated in PPT natively even if it’s exactly a 1:1 copy of a consulting market study page)
Seems like a perfect application of Claude!
It can help for sure with extracting basic shapes but still really struggles with proper formatting and our style of hyper dense writing.
Yes, all of our IC and internal portco materials are on PPT. However, it’s literally get the content on the page, whatever size of Calibri fits, etc. Doesn’t look great always but still has a certain level of formatting, but very secondary compared to banking
