StepStone Reputation

Hi! I’m hoping to learn more about how StepStone Group is regarded on the street from an investment (not advisory) perspective - I know they’re a FoF, but they seem to be leaders in the space and raise pretty large funds.

Any insights on reputation in the US/EMEA, comp, exit opps, etc would be appreciated, both for PE and Real Estate.

There are other posts on this forum, but with limited information. Thanks in advance!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about StepStone Real Estate:

Reputation:

  • StepStone Real Estate is primarily known for fund investments and recaps.
  • They are considered leaders in the fund of funds (FoF) space and raise substantial funds.

Compensation:

  • Specific details on compensation are not provided in the available content, but it is implied that they offer competitive packages given their leadership position in the market.

Exit Opportunities:

  • Working at StepStone Real Estate might raise concerns about being pigeonholed into fund investments and recaps, potentially limiting opportunities to move back to a true acquisitions role.
  • However, the skills and experience gained at a leading FoF can still be valuable and transferable to other roles within the real estate and private equity sectors.

Additional Insights:

  • The firm is well-regarded in both the US and EMEA regions.
  • For someone currently in an acquisitions analyst role at a middle-market real estate private equity (REPE) firm, transitioning to StepStone might offer a different but prestigious career path.

For more detailed and specific insights, you might want to explore further discussions or threads on WSO related to StepStone Real Estate.

Have a friend there. Comp is lower at analyst level as they hire out of undergrad but carry is significant there with big funds and VC team has upper quartile returns. VC team is well known in industry but other teams not as strong

Comp is ass, real estate is super shit, moreso in EMEA than the US.

RE sucks globally, lost clients last year after a shit year
