Switch from associate to PE

I'm a post-MBA associate in a BB. Was wondering how easy / tough / impossible it was to move to PE from my position. If it were possible, when would that move be the easiest? Associate, VP level? Or is it simply way too late for a guy like me to switch? What would I have to do to switch?

Thanks

Post-MBA it's much more common at the VP level and above. As an analyst, PE firms recruit you for your modeling skills, work ability, etc. Post-MBA positions are mostly partner track so they're more interested in the contacts you could bring in the industry in addition to overall industry expertise, as oppose to your ability to create a LBO model. I have seen associates go from IB associate to senior associate at PE, but much more uncommon.

Spot on.
