Switching from MM HF PE?

Long story short, finished up year 3 at one of the large Multi manager HFs (Citadel, Millenium). This was my first job on the buyside. Realized that I didn’t like the market neutral model, and I’m not certain that I love public markets either as a long term career.

Wanted to ask if anyone has any anecdotes about people moving from hedge funds to PE? And if so, any thoughts on funds that would be receptive? Thanks.

I went straight into a fundamental L/S shop out of school, did that for a few years, and jumped to PE. Might be harder from a market neutral strategy, if only due to perception.

Lack of deal reps was the hardest part, and I made up for it with examples of how I could creatively think like an investor, and by practicing so that I had my modeling down cold and removed any doubt there.

If you did banking prior to the HF it will probably help your case, although you might still be looking at a first year associate role
