Technical Experience vs Industry Experience
I’ve spent nearly two years at a large-cap fund that invests across the capital structure (joined out of undergrad). While the modeling reps have been great, our group focuses on structured equity and is generalist. As a result, I haven’t gotten as much deep industry or commercial diligence exposure (we take a much lighter approach to diligence).
I'd rather think more strategically, and my hypothesis is that pure structuring / modeling skills will be commoditized by AI anyway.
Has anyone in a similar seat navigated this? Any tips in a move to traditional buyout?
