Transition to PE in early to mid thirties (diverse background)
Hello everyone - reaching out to know of experiences moving to a PE role in early to mid thirties (without an MBA). I have had varied experiences across product management and S&T (front office) at global banks, and networked my way into a BB coverage group’s associate class last year. Wondering if anyone here has had a diverse background and made the transition to PE successfully after a short stint in banking - but at a later stage in career (10+ years WE). And if possible, at what level/title can one make the move? I have no intention of going in for a one or two year MBA program at this point. Any inputs and/or guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Thoughts please, anyone?
Most likely will join at associate level. I did similarly (IB coverage aso-> pe aso). If you’re savvy you can work a year of experience in but 100% dependent on quals and how long you were in banking
You might be able to get into a low paying independent sponsor or LMM shop. Sad truth is that PE likes people that fit in a mould.
Thank you! Anyone else with similar experience who could provide inputs please??
