What comes after PE/VC?

IB analyst at a BB trying to figure out what to do following the analyst stint.

Title says it all, what do people usually do after churning out of PE/VC? It seems like the vast majority do not make it to partner and get pushed out within 4-5 years, what happens to these individuals? Corporate Development? Business Operations in tech?

I'm considering moving to Product Management after my banking stint (I'm in a tech group), but seems like very few people do so and the vast majority move to PE/VC. Is this just in hopes of making partner? It seems like those who are pushed out/leave PE/VC exit to finance roles which pay much less and have much less upward trajectory. Is there something I am missing in the calculus of moving straight to industry vs. going to PE/VC?

Who cares what the exit’s exit’s exit’s are bro. That’s so far away. Take a step back, and think. After a couple of years in PE, you don’t have to stay into PE. Can go to BS, do an MBA and reconsider. The world is your oyster. Live in the moment a bit, I think people on here need to that more 😂

At MF PE (will be going to get an MBA) and truth be told future is unclear. While that may sound 'scary' for the first time in my life I really will get the chance to sit down and evaluate what I want to do with my life whether that be the private markets (PE/GE/VC), public (HF/AM) or even entrepreneurship (startup).

Also while it is true that people do get pushed out from becoming partner, similar to banking there is a lot of natural attrition during the associate -VP level as people realize that perhaps the rat race and receiving 'carry' just isn't worth sacrificing your life for the rest of your 20's and 30's when there are other jobs that pay well (not anywhere close to PE carry of course) but are able to live comfortably while having a life outside of work (ex. corp dev making $300-500k)
