What happened to failed search funders?

Saw an article talking about how most search funds fail to get off the ground. Curious what typically happens to those founders and if anyone has any stories?

Do they get screwed going bankrupt repaying the angel investors who lent ~$200k during the search time? Do they return to IB/PE or other previous roles?
