When to give notice of quitting (bonus timing)?
Have a lateral offer to join another firm this fall and need to notify my current firm. Bonuses are paid out at the end of June — is it standard practice to wait until bonuses are actually paid out before putting in my notice? Or would it be better if I have them notice earlier so would have more time to transition my deals, portcos, etc.? And is two weeks still customary or do people do more/less these days?
After your bonus hits your bank account you tell them, NEVER before.
They'll want you to stay long as possible (a month or so) given it takes a while to find a replacement but I'd say if you don't want to burn bridges I'd stay at least two weeks.
