Which is the Better Start to Have a Chance in PE?

Hello monkeys,

This is my first WSO post and I am seeking some guidance.

I just received my internship offer to one of the large banks as a corporate analyst. I am seriously debating on jumping on this, but still have a number of interviews with boutique (extremely small and relatively unknown) IBs.

Which of these two routes would provide better preparation for a career in PE? Does a household name trump the work being done, or is IB the way to go regardless of where I may be at?

Thanks!

Is this for an internship in summer 2015 or during the school year? If it's for the summer, I'd hold off until normal recruiting in Jan/Feb, since you might be able to get an even better.

My opinion is that you're better off doing something you want to do at a boutique than something totally different at a BB.
