Which MF's Allow Associates to gain Operating Experience through PortCo's?
Curious to know which (if any) of the MF's allow PE Associates to gain some sort of operational experience with their portco's. Have heard of some PE associates having some say in operations/strategy with their respective portcos, so would love to know which of the MF's encourage/allow this?
WP
No MF gives you operational experience, Associates are too busy doing mindless shit in excel and powerpoint.
Lmao, after two years of playing around in spreadsheets, what would you possibly do to help run a company? You'd be lucky to get the dial-in number for the board meetings.
APO does something similar. Especially if you're dealing with a particularly hairy portco situation, associates may be inserted into taking on fairly modeling intensive roles (surprise!) as it relates to laying out the operating model and taking point on modeling potential tuck-in deals. I concede this isn't so much an operating role but it certainly gives associates an upfront and close look into how the firm is thinking about managing the risk with a particular investment.

Do not phrase it like this in an interview - you will trigger their "shadow directorship" reflex!
