1st Year RE Internships

Hello Monkeys, I have a great interest in Real Estate. I will be attending a non target school but definitely recognizable next fall on the west coast. I have been on WSO for a while now and I know the traditional path is usually IB then go to PE or HF, but I don't want to do IB. I want to do development and I want to know the best ways to get there. I know RE in general does not have a general path as other finance jobs. Because I want to development or any RE gig for that matter what internships are good and attainable for a freshman to get? My best guess would be a housing non profit but what do I know? So if anyone could tell me the internships they did in UG to get a good RE gig please let me know and it does not only have to be development. Also if you have any other advice please let me know!

Thank you for responses
