A career in Data Centres

Dear all,

Would appreciate some thoughts about lateraling to Data Centers. What are the prospects for this asset class ? Would it be a wise career move transferring to a DC portfolio company?

Many thanks.

Its super niche and the deal flow is here and there. But it has amazing tailwinds and demand.

As much as people are trying to toute alternatives to NoVa, you can't compete with 70% of the world's internet traffic and insanely good connectivity

The problem is twofold. Space and power. Only soo much SF in NoVa and Dominion won't be able to provide power for any new developments over 100MW until 2026. Which is a hard bench line for hyperscalers and big colocation. Plus some NIMBY sentiments are starting to grow in Loudoun County.

Great tailwinds for the deal I am working on but specializing in it is a little limiting IMO. Not an insanely complex asset class that almost operates like a ground lease from a lender's perspective.

Yes, I agree. It would be kind of putting "all your eggs in the same basket". Having said that, there could be the possibility to transition to industrials or infrastructure as DC share some similarities with both. What do you think?
