Acquisitions --> Development: How'd it work out?

Those that went from acquisitions to development, how'd it work out for you? Now that I've settled into my first full-time gig (almost 10 months in), I'm dusting off my 5-year plan and am starting to think about what my next steps will be.

I really enjoy acquisitions and feel like I'm learning a ton, but sometimes I wish I was a little bit closer to the bricks & sticks. I have always intended on being in development, but wanted to start my career in acquisitions to help understand the investor's mind set, and it generally felt like a great place to start my career that would create a broad base. My concern now is that if I wait too long to move into development I may have to take a step backwards.
