Acquisitions -> Lending -> Acquisitions?

Hello,

Started my real estate career working on the acquisitions team at a large pension fund. Although I am gaining exposure to a lot of deals, I am looking for a little more hands on experience in sourcing and underwriting transactions as a lot of the modeling/underwriting of our equity transactions is done externally (ie separate accounts). Most of my work on transactions is market research and validating their assumptions, I'd like to be in a little more detail.

However, we have an origination team that originates core loans (first mortgages) for very large transactions. This team sources and underwrites all deals in house. I was thinking of either asking to move or split time there to tune up my modeling/underwriting skills for when I look to make my next move.

If my end goal is REPE acquisitions, is this a smart move? Any feedback will be helpful.

Thanks in advance
