Acquisitions Staffing

How are your acquisitions teams staffed and how do senior people direct deal flow? I.e. all deals come in through MD’s and they are filtered and then staffed to VPs for screening/execution, or every employee constantly pitching? What is the format of pipeline meetings etc

When I did acquisitions and lending we had a staffer who would monitor work load, etc. However, just like anywhere politics might play a role too. Some of the associates preferred debt, others equity. And we would keep tabs on what deals were coming in for the originators we wanted to work with and would pre-empt the staffing process if we had the workload. It was generally fine to do so as it was just office culture and everyone had enough on their plate, but wasn’t overworked.

As we invested nationally, each production officer (equity and debt) covered their own region and dug up deals. Once they found something they decided whether or not to pursue if. If it passed the sniff test, it was socialized up the chain to see if any of our capital accounts had interest / bandwidth for the type of deal, and if so, the staffing of a junior and underwriting process began.
