Advice on best way to go about connection offering an introduction

Looking for a entry level position at a development shop (acquisitions role/assistant project manager/analyst). A connection offered to see if he knows anyone at the places I'm targeting. We haven't discussed any names and I don't want to abuse his generosity/waste his time.

Is the best way to go about this to choose 4-5 realistic shops I want to work for and he can see if he knows anyone? Or do I choose very far reaches that I am 99% sure I'm not going to get into at this point in my career and use the warm intro to meet people/build the relationship for the future if I want to switch to a better shop?

Say I already know someone at one of the 5, do I put it in there to meet more people at the same shop which can be beneficial.
