Agency lender to W.P. Carey career switch?
Hey monkeys,
I need some career advice and appreciate any feedback. I graduated in 2019 from a non-target and have only been working as an underwriting analyst for a couple of months (8 months). It has been great working on the agency lending debt side, as I have learned a lot in that short period of time. However, I’ve always had a keen interest in working on the principal side.
I am currently in the beginning process of interviewing at a WP Carey, and would like to have a better understanding of the day-to-day life, salary/bonus expectations, exit opportunities, culture, work-life balance, etc as an investments analyst.
Could anyone share some light into this space? And would making this switch too early hinder my candidacy later down the line?
Thank you fellow monkeys, and I appreciate the feedback!
The net lease space isn't too exciting for me - for a role like that you should understand how to underwrite credit mores than real estate as it comes secondary. Understand the three financial statements. If you like it, its a great niche to be in.
I see…so what do you think the day-to-day looks like working on that side at a REIT?
