Any suggestions for international students to find a summer internship in RE?

Hi guys, I’m an international student with a three STEM. I’m currently studying at Cornell Real Estate program and I quite want to find an re acquisition or investment related summer internships. However, big firms like JLL no more consider about international students.

Does anyone know some small firms or boutique firms offer opportunities to international students?

currenly, I’m using handshake and LinkedIn, but not lots of offer me interviews.

Ps. I got some internship experience outside US (Cushman, re development and Zillow remote), my gpa is high and my modeling skills, financial knowledge is really solid.

I feel your pain brother, I managed to get an acquisitions internship as an informal internship (no recruiting process, just networked and asked about opportunities at their respective companies) but nothing for FT yet. It wasn't structured but it was really good experience since I had to be entrepreneurial af

Hopefully your Cornell degree could help you at least work at a firm that's willing to get you a job for 3 years given the stem OPT

But your best bet for sponsorship would be at a bigger firm that has the resources to hire immigration lawyers that would allow you to be sponsored for at least one H1B round. So you'd have to be very open minded to different RE roles. REIB and big names would be ideal

I am also an international student with a STEM background. From my experience in the Real Estate industry, most companies do not know the procedures for sponsoring Visa. My company did not know the process but was willing to sponsor just that I had to guide them through it. For a small company it’s not a huge expense if you get a decent priced lawyer.

I believe you should keep the conversation of sponsoring in the end after you have gotten an offer during your first job search. If the company likes you they will figure out a way to sponsor, especially in the current scenario where analyst are in demand.
