Background check discrepancy PLS HELP

Hello,

I recently received an offer from a PERE Top 20 firm, and I am really excited.

My concern is that they ran a background check on me, and were unable to verify one of my employment experiences (they verified the other more important one successfully).

This is because the internship was informal and unpaid. I gave them the phone number of the Founder who "hired" me and offered to provide as much info as I could. I also gave my reference a heads-up that a third party would call, but maybe they didn't answer the phone. The internship was very informal, especially since the company doesn't have a website, email, or full-time employees (I think this is making them doubt me even more).

Is not being able to verify the employment going to get my offer rescinded? Should I be proactive and tell the company about my situation?

Any advice is appreciated!!!!

Thank you for responding. I'm not sure how likely the guy is to actually do this knowing him. Definitely something to consider though.

Should I tell the company? or wait for them to see if they'll bring it up?

I never got an offer letter and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a company email. I will make the letter though.

Do you advise sending it ASAP? Or wait to see what the company says?

Would definitely not bring this up unless the company let you know there’s a problem. Honestly chances are they won’t care - but I would still try to get your former employer to cough up a letter of employment just to be safe.
