Beal Bank

Anyone have any insight or opinion on Beal Bank's real estate lending practice?  Or have any direct experience dealing with them on a project?

I recall hearing/seeing them mentioned (through one of their affiliates) as having funded a few deals randomly over the years.  I've read a few articles about the namesake and seems like a pretty shrewd guy.  Runs the bank as sole shareholder as a quasi family office/hedge fund.

I've seen them pop up recently as they closed a very large construction loan in Dallas for MSD and heard from a few institutional debt brokers that they are supposedly scaling up to do large balance CRE construction loans and asset refinances.  The one Dallas contact I have that knows them has indicated they are tough to deal with, but I don't know the context.
