Anyone have any knowledge on Big 4 TRE groups? (EY, Deloitte, PWC, KPMG) Would going the capital markets route at a brokerage (JLL, C&W, CBRE, Eastdil) be a better path for someone taking their first role in CRE?
At the Big 4 you can either work in the valuation group or something like FDD for real estate companies. Going the valuation route is a great career start - you learn a ton about all of the approaches to value and you get to work with some really big clients and value some very unique properties.
I did Big 4 audit and had a Masters of Accounting, before I went into real estate investments. Actually, I did a real estate accounting internship while in school.
While my exact path might be harder now (Big 4 audit to large fund) compared to 20 years ago, getting into real estate is all about your story trying to convince someone to give you a chance, after you demonstrate a track record of hard work and competence.
Your story should be personal and authentic. And it should rationalize why you are obsessed with the sector.
