Was just wondering what type of role would cause someone to leave a gig at either of these shops or another comparable firm. Any places where lateral would make sense rather than promotion?

Not getting worked to your bones but still making solid money and doing interesting transactions, which is like 70% of the non-core private real estate fund world. The infatuation of undergrads with Starwood and blackstone is really unwarranted. Obviously good brand names, but the same end goal can be accomplished at different firms while having an actual life.
