Broker to developer - switching over while working on a deal for them

Has this ever happened to anyone? You're working in brokerage - sales and you're working on a deal an owner/developer is interested in.

Realistically this could take 1-2 years to close and the developer mentions they have openings in the middle of this process. Anyone have any insight into how to handle this or would they generally wait until the deal is closed?

Curious how it would work if you switched over in the middle of this process with commission, etc. Do you have a conflict of interest because you want the deal to close and get a commission, but you're working for the potential buyer now?
